Maybe the coolest new feature to appear in the iPhone 12 is MagSafe, a magnetic power transfer system that allows you to attach peripheral devices and wirelessly charge your phone. (The name “MagSafe” is recycled from the Mac charging standard that was replaced by USB-C in 2019.)

Apple has released a bunch of its own MagSafe-compatible accessories, but there are tons of third-party devices as well, including cases, stands, wallets, chargers, tripods, and car mounts. In this guide, we’ll cover 10 of our favorites.

What to Consider

The use you’ll get out of a MagSafe accessory depends largely on intent. Although there are hundreds of products to choose from, most fit into one of three, occasionally overlapping categories: cases, mounts, and chargers.

Cases are mostly an aesthetic consideration, but not entirely; materials and designs may impact grip strength, capacity, drop protection, scratch or water resistance. MagSafe mounts can be found for a variety of uses; there are tripods, table stands, car mounts, and gaming clips, to name a few.

Chargers form a category of their own, with different designs, price points, and charging speeds. Although those sold by Apple tend to offer more reliable operation, they are also more expensive.

How We Selected

As with all peripheral and accessory devices, there’s a lot of cheap junk out there. While user reviews sometimes offer hints as to the long-term reliability of a product, often you just need to go with a reliable brand.

In compiling a list of our 10 favorite MagSafe accessories, we tried to account for a bit of everything, with an eye for reputable brand names and well-built products. The list includes a mixed bag of cases, mounts, and chargers. We combed through hundreds of user reviews, product specs, and testing data to find the MagSafe accessories that most suited the broadest set of needs.

Best MagSafe Charger

Apple MagSafe Charger

Apple’s proprietary MagSafe charger is a reliable choice for a basic wireless charging device. At 15 watts, it’s the fastest such charging device and enjoys some impressively positive user reviews. All you have to do is plug the charger into an outlet and then snap the charger end onto the back of your iPhone 12 or AirPods Pro case—charging will start immediately.

While the Apple MagSafe charger is well-built, elegantly designed, and fast-charging, it frustratingly does not include one of those white power bricks you need to charge all Apple mobile devices. However, you could use the one that came with your iPhone or buy a new one.

  • Fast-charging
  • Simple, straightforward design
  • Doesn’t come with power adapter

Snazzy 3-in-1 Charging

Belkin MagSafe 3-in-1 Wireless Charger

Belkin
amazon.com

$216.88

For a three-in-one charger that looks like a futuristic bedside lamp, consider this gadget from Belkin. While a bit pricey, the Belkin charger offers a one-stop-shop for charging your iPhone12, Apple Watch, and AirPods headphones. The angled design allows the charger to double as a stand for your iPhone, making it suitable for watching video or FaceTiming at a desk. We also appreciate the seamless, Apple-inspired design.

For all it offers, though, the Belkin MagSafe 3-in-1 costs considerably more than that of three separate MagSafe chargers. Sure, you’ll save on clutter, but this is a decidedly luxury charging device.

  • Charge iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once
  • Sleek design fit for Apple

3

Basic 2-in-1 Charger

Belkin MagSafe 2-in-1 Wireless Charger

From the same family of three-in-one chargers comes this cheaper, slimmer two-in-one accessory. With a MagSafe charging stand for an iPhone and a charging platform for either an Apple Watch or AirPods Case, this Belkin gadget is both compact and convenient. Like its big sister, the two-in-one iPhone stand can switch between portrait and landscape mode for desktop use.

The design doesn’t scream high-end Apple accessory as much as the three-in-one does, but that more modest approach may appeal to people who don’t own a triumvirate of Apple devices. We still wish it was priced more competitively.

  • Two-in-one charging
  • Sleek, convenient design

Budget MagSafe Charger

Yootech Magnetic Wireless Charger

yootech
amazon.com

$14.99

If you don’t want to spend Apple prices for a MagSafe charger we recommend this option from Yootech. It’s well-reviewed for what is probably the cheapest MagSafe charger you’ll find and is compatible with all the same Apple devices: iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, and AirPods Pro.

There’s no stand and the design is pretty basic, but it includes two ports—one Type-C port and one USB A port—allowing you to charge from a variety of devices and adapters. Some user reviews complain that the magnets are pretty weak and the charging slow, but hey, did we mention it costs $15?

  • Very affordable
  • Two USB ports

5

Fully Adjustable Stand

ESR HaloLock Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand

There is value in the MagSafe system beyond just charging, and while this stand is also a charger, it works just as well as an adjustable stand for watching video or FaceTiming. The fully adjustable hinges allow you to tilt or angle your phone into any position, and the magnets themselves allow you to rotate into portrait or landscape mode.

It’s a simple charger, and the plastic build may translate to a short lifespan, but for $30 we imagine it will get the job done for on-the-go Zoom calls, FaceTime, or idling away the hours watching video.

  • Fully adjustable
  • Affordable

6

Snap-and-go PowerBank

Anker Magnetic Wireless Portable Charger

Anker is perhaps best known for its line of external battery packs and chargers, so it makes sense they’d come out with a MagSafe-compatible power brick. This slim little gadget latches onto the back of your iPhone 12 for a 5-watt charge of up to 5,000mAh—roughly 17 hours of video playtime.

It’s well-designed and certainly convenient, although it is not the fastest charger you’ll find and the amperage may not be sufficient for a full charge if you own an iPhone 12 Pro Max. For most users, however, it will definitely come in handy on trips and days out.

  • On-the-go charging in a slim package
  • Convenient design
  • Slow charging
  • May not provide full charge

7

MagSafe Car Mount

Spigen OneTap

snap onto just about any surface in your vehicle. Bear in mind, though, this is only a mount, not a charger.

There are two models, one with a suction cup for attaching to dashboard surfaces, and the other with a clip for attaching to an air vent. The suction OneTap features an adjustable hinge and a telescopic arm that can extend the stand up to 11.3 inches. The air vent model includes an adjustable swing arm for 360-degree rotation.

  • Attach to pretty much any surface in your car
  • Highly adjustable

8

Basic MagSafe case

Apple iPhone Silicone Case with MagSafe

Not all cases made for the iPhone 12 line are MagSafe-compatible. In fact, many are not. Apple, thankfully, has a line of compatible cases in a variety of colors that allow for full MagSafe functionality. This one comes in 15 different colors and does not require removal for charging.

It’s basic and to the point, but maybe that’s exactly what you’re looking for. That being said, for such a simple case, we expected it to be a bit cheaper. Apple’s own MagSafe charger is more affordable. But hey, that’s Apple.

  • Fully compatible MagSafe case
  • Lots of color options

9

Pop Grip MagsSafe

PopSockets PopGrip for MagSafe

PopSockets
amazon.com

$29.99

PopSockets are extremely popular smartphone handles that double as stands and come in a variety of colors and patterns. It took a while, but MagSafe PopSockets are finally hitting the shelves, bringing full magnetic glory to one of the most popular iPhone shells on the market.

Unlike traditional PopSockets, which use an adhesive to stick to your device, the MagSafe PopSockets use magnets, allowing you to more easily transfer between devices. But the chief appeal, of course, is the easy handling. It’s a cheap and nifty little gadget that works as advertised, though we’d still like to see more design options available.

  • Magnetic attachment
  • Easy iPhone handling

10

Stand-Wallet Combo

MOFT Snap-On Magnetic Stand & Wallet

Leave it to third-party manufacturers to come up with the strangest new applications for Apple technology. This two-in-one MagSafe stand and wallet is not powered and features few moving parts, but it’s a clever addition to the library of MagSafe peripherals.

Slimmer than the iPhone itself, the wallet attaches to the back of the devices and folds out to form a convenient stand. You can prop it up in portrait or landscape mode, and fit three cards and some cash inside. A few user reviews complain about how securely the cards fit in the wallet, so wear it with caution.

  • Two-in-one wallet and stand
  • Affordable
